FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT THIS SITE
|
| When HARVARDNETSUCKS.COM came on the air on October 24th, 2000, we got a little bit of attention that quickly expanded to a lot of attention within a short time. We've sat back and watched all the responses by all sorts of folks, whether they be HarvardNet or Ex-Harvardnet, Bystander or Completely Disinterested Party, and we thought we'd answer some of your questions. If you have questions not covered on here, please e-mail us and if we can answer, we'll answer.

WHY IS THIS SITE EVEN HERE?
|
| The HARVARDNETSUCKS domain name was registered on September 14th as a complete, total, throwaway joke. The domain was left, unused and fallow, for over a month with no responses, letters, or notifications from anyone about it. Around the middle of October, we put up a simple, straightforward site with a parody logo and an e-mail address. The amusing, angry, and insightful letters we got from others encouraged us, and we threw up a few catty remarks about our ex-employer. A WEEK LATER, WE WERE SUED. Not sent a warning letter, not contacted with requests to take the site down or change it, not given any indication about anything, just sued, for many thousands of dollars, and given a week to respond in court to an immediate temporary restraining order. We've been doing this site since.
HOW CAN I HELP?
|
| We're always looking for interesting URLs to point to, news stories to pick up, and the usual gossip. We don't print gossip, of course, but we like to hear it. About HarvardNet, about the DSL industry, about ex-employees going out into the world and making their mark... All that kind of stuff. Bring it on. We don't take money; that would make us a business. Hence, no t-shirts or buttons or the like. A shame, but that's what the world sometimes is like. We're also not currently looking for donations to a legal fund, although if this court case continues to wear us down like it is, that opinion might change; we like eating.
DON'T YOU KNOW YOU'RE RUINING IT FOR... | (HarvardNet Employees, HarvardNet, The Good People, etc.)
There's not really a good way to answer this question. The fact is,
there are people who will continue to work at a job because they have
fierce dedication to what they believe in regardless of what the
company actually engages in. There are also people who simply don't know
any better. Our actions on the outside don't affect these peoples'
lives one whit.
| Additionally, we honestly don't think there's anything left to "ruin".
I HEARD THAT THE SITE...... | (is run by a guy/the Vatican/in a pizza place)
Rumors are great. They're easy to make up, pass around, and give in
place of real and actual facts. When we were working at HarvardNet, we
heard an awful lot of rumors about everyone and everything. We were
pretty used to not having the slightest clue about what was going on
around us, because everything we were hearing about the direction of
the company and where it was going came to us through quiet conversations
in offices and the kitchens, over foosball. We'd be a little sad if
that changed.
| Since HarvardNet blocks access to this site, it seems appropriate that the populace of HarvardNet would take a shot at making up information where they weren't previously allowed to have it. Bully for them.
YOU HAVE TOO MUCH FREE TIME | or DON'T YOU HAVE A LIFE?
| We're sorry you live in a world where any amount of effort expended on something is an automatic indication that the person is doing absolutely nothing else and has no life. Isn't it the people who accomplish nothing who have no lives? Anyway, please formulate a new insult. That one's old.
